McCoy Tyner was not only the pianist of John Coltrane’s historic quartet and the musician who designed in a functional and creative way the harmonic aspects of a unique and extremely seminal discourse for the evolution of jazz. In his long and fertile career, which effectively ended with his death in March 2020, he then carried on with consistency and personality the ideas arising from his experience with Coltrane, in search of a synthesis between lyricism and energy, between reflection and thrusts towards the avant-garde. Avery Sharpe, Antonio Faraò, Ignacio Berroa, Chico Freeman and Steve Turre confront the great legacy left by the pianist in his original compositions as well as in his interpretations and interventions as a sideman, bringing into play style and expressive characteristics, paths now consolidated with maturity and interpretative depth. A real all-star band in which different approaches to improvisational music are intertwined in a sharing conceived and created in the name of the experiences made alongside the American pianist.
